If you happen to stop in Bologna you can not miss The Specola Museum, historical seat of the astronomy department of the city contained inside an astronomical tower erected at the beginning of the 700' on Palazzo Poggi. The palace was purchased under the influence of Luigi Ferdinando Marsigli to house the Institute of Sciences of the University and an astronomical observatory.
The Specola Museum was founded in order to realize the idea of a science that was experimental and that dialogued with other disciplines in a cohesion between theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge. It contains the scientific instruments of the past, including the astrolabe.

Its appearance, made of rotating discs studded with mysterious circles, contributes to increase its charm and turn it into an exclusive object and linked to the origins.
In this regard, in our " Astrolabe suite: science room", the large iron astrolabe that overlooks the circular ceiling room, recalls the historical importance of the Institute of Sciences of Bologna, when he managed to profoundly transform the university teaching concept, thus renewing the cultural and scientific life of our city.
Finally, a fundamental figure in the field of science and health is Francesco Rizzoli, who bought the former convent San Michele in Bosco to found the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute, today well known throughout Italy. This place is the protagonist of the mystery of the Asinelli Tower, subject to an optical illusion. In fact, by going to the monumental corridor of the Institute you can see the imposing Tower through the window placed at the end of it, the peculiarity is that distancing yourself from the window the Tower seems to grow: this happens to the telescope effect.
